'All That Lies Between Us' Screening at Paterson Falls Film Festival

Blending interviews, poetry, photography, and music, All That Lies Between Us is a moving documentary of the life and work of Maria Mazziotti Gillan. Paterson, and especially the Italian-American enclave that inspired much of her writing, is a central character in the film.

Appropriately, the documentary will be screened at the Paterson Film Festival is on June 14th at 11:22 am at the Fabian 8 Cinema in Paterson. Maria is scheduled to appear at the screening.

The film features interviews with Maria as she reminisces and shares insights about her life, including her student days in Paterson when being Italian was sometimes ridiculed, and when she had the same teacher who taught one of the city’s most celebrated literary figures, poet Allen Ginsberg.

The documentary, which is written, produced and directed by Kevin Carey and Mark Hillringhouse, incorporates images of Paterson that juxtapose sad urban decay with thrilling natural wonders, and remnants of an industrial past with scenes from contemporary life.

This festival is organized by artists who care deeply about the city of Paterson, New Jersey and want people from all over the world to visit the city. The festival brings attention to the thriving art center in Paterson's Historic District. The films selected for the festival are shown in Paterson's Historic District, which surrounds the Great Falls National Park. Past venues include the Paterson Museum, the Ivanhoe Wheelhouse, and the Fabian Theater in the Center City Mall.

A portion of the proceeds generated by the festival are given directly to local nonprofit organizations that exist to benefit the arts in Paterson. These funds are used to support things like after school art education for children and spaces for local artists to create and exhibit their work. It also supports film makers from local colleges and universities by granting winners in the student division scholarships and/or grants used to fund their films. This division of the festival is and always will be free to enter for any students of the participating schools.

That weekend is also when the 2014 Art Walk will be going on and many of the galleries and businesses around the Fabian 8 will have events scheduled on the 14th and 15th. They'll be open all day. They're all in walking distance of each other.

There is a parking garage at the Center City Mall where the Fabian 8 is located. For information on public lots see PatersonParking.org.
