“I don't like poems that are solely intellectual exercises,” says Maria. “I think you should write out of your own background and life. Don't neaten it up. What poetry needs is to be un-neatened.”Her interview will be presented in two parts on January 23 and the 30th on KPFA at 3 pm and these shows will be available in the archive later.
