The Poetry Center at PCCC was one of 25 organizations nationwide to be nominated for the Above and Beyond Award for 2014.
None of us work in a vacuum—whether we’re inspired by books that awe or part of an active literary group, we belong to a community of artists, readers, teachers. Those of you who’ve followed Beyond the Margins over our nearly 5 years may be familiar with the Above and Beyond Award. In 2012 and 2013 we accepted nominations for writers who excel at supporting other writers and giving back.
We at Beyond the Margins were delighted to receive more than 50 nominations for 25 organizations for this year’s Above and Beyond Award. We discovered writers’ groups that do everything from guide new authors to publication to running workshops for court-involved youths and senior citizens. We heard about small presses that produce beautiful high quality books, a retreat that offers sanctuary to endangered writers, and several communities that offer their time, energy and expertise to support minority writers.
