Honoring Maria Mazziotti Gillan in Albidona, Calabria, Italy

During Maria Gillan's May 2019 time in Italy leading poetry workshops and conferencing with writers in Calabria as part of the Italian Diaspora Studies Association, she was also honored by the citizens of the area. Maria's parents have their roots in the area and her poetry also has roots extending to their homeland.

The program has a number of important collaborators and sponsors including the Department of Humanistic Studies of the University of Calabria, the United States Consulate in Naples, the Embassy of Canada in Rome, the Italian Cultural Institute of Montreal (Canada), the chair of Italian American Studies to Loyola University in Chicago (USA), and the Association for Italian-American Studies (IASA).
