Poetry Workshop with Emily Mohn-Slate - Madwomen in the Attic

Have you always wanted to be a Madwoman in the Attic writing poetry but lived too far away from Pittsburgh to participate? We’re now launching our Madwomen Online National Workshops! We’ve decided to expand, to reach out to women across the country.

We believe in the absolute necessity of women’s voices and in the right to be heard and seen. We are looking for dreamers and wanderers, visionaries and mind-travelers. Are you ready to study with a working writer, to share your work and get serious, yet supportive response? Are you ready to be a Madwoman?

Consider joining us for this first national poetry workshop this fall, led by Emily Mohn-Slate. Please see the included flyer for information. There will be more classes to follow in fiction and nonfiction. We would love to meet you and hear your work!

The Poetry Workshop with Emily Mohn-Slate (non-credit) will meet Tuesdays, September 1-November 24, 2020 6:30-8:30 p.m. Eastern Time (No class on October 13) $175 online via Zoom In this course, we will workshop our poems in order to deepen our knowledge of the craft of poetry. We will operate on the assumption that we improve as poets not only by writing and receiving feedback on our own work but also by becoming a better reader of other's work. We will talk about how to understand the effects of your craft choices and how to honor your own voice and vision. I will provide poems and prompts to encourage you to explore new forms and questions, and we will read one poetry collection by a contemporary woman writer. Poets of all levels are welcome. This class is synchronous, with all classwork taking place within class hours.

EMILY MOHN-SLATE is the author of The Falls, winner of the 2019 New American Poetry Prize, (forthcoming in 2020 from New American Press), and Feed, winner of the 2018 Keystone Chapbook Prize (Seven Kitchens Press). She is a graduate of the Bennington Writing Seminars (MFA), Boston University (MA), and Colgate University (BA). She lives and teaches in Pittsburgh, PA,
