Award-winning poets, Laura Boss & Maria Mazziotti Gillan will be offering their WRITING YOUR WAY HOME: A POETRY WEEKEND INTENSIVE in a new location this December 18 – 20, 2015.
The weekend event will be held at the the Loyola Retreat House—a large and elegant 105-year-old mansion located in Morristown, NJ. The location, the former Foote Family Mansion, is on 33 acres of wooded land and includes a ¾-mile path, sunken garden and fish pond. In this serene, beautiful setting for contemplating nature, you can nurture the creative spirit.
This poetry weekend intensive is open to all writers over the age of 18. Fifteen professional development credits will be granted.
The purpose of this retreat is to give writers the space and time to focus on their work away from the pressures and distractions of everyday life. Participants will draft poems in the workshops and need to bring paper or a notebook, pens, and a willingness to take risks. Please also bring previously-written work for one-on-one critiquing sessions and for group readings.
At this retreat, poets will find support and encouragement, stimulating writing exercises/prompts leading to the creation of new work and workshop leaders who are actively engaged in the writing life.
Weekend Schedule:
Friday: arrive between 3:00 and 5:30 p.m. and settle into rooms and begin to unplug from any distractions. After dinner, we'll break into two groups of 12 to 15 and start right in on writing and sharing our efforts.in each).
Saturday: After breakfast, groups will form for morning workshops. After lunch, there will be an afternoon workshop, followed by your choice of free time or a critiquing session with Maria or Laura.There will be an evening workshop session after dinner.
Sunday: Breakfast followed by a workshop. A final reading by all participants will serve as the “closing ceremony” to what we hope will be an inspiring and productive weekend. Lunch will offer another opportunity for socializing and networking.

Early Bird Discount: deduct $25 if paid in full by November 7, 2015.
- Total fee includes room, meals, and workshops. Each room has a sink and a semi-private bathroom is located between every two-room suite.

ABOUT THE POETS
Her collections of poetry include Stripping (Chantry Press, 1982) the award-winning On the Edge of the Hudson (Cross-Cultural Communications, 1986). Her book, Reports from the Front (CCC, 1995) was nominated for an American Book Award. Arms: New and Selected Poems was published by Guernica Editions in 1999. Flashlight, also published by Guernica, is her most recent collection.
Her poetry has appeared in The New York Times and in the anthology The Poets of New Jersey: From Colonial to Contemporary (Jersey Shore Publications). In 1998 her manuscript was a finalist in the Poetry Society of America’s Alice Fay Di Castagnola Award.
Laura is the founder and Editor of Lips poetry magazine
She is the Founder /Executive Director of the Poetry Center at Passaic County Community College in Paterson, NJ, and editor of the Paterson Literary Review. She is also Director of the Creative Writing Program and Professor of Poetry at Binghamton University-SUNY.
Maria has published twenty books. Her most recent are the poetry and art collection, The Girls in the Chartreuse Jackets
(Redux Consortium). Ancestors' Song (Bordighera Press), Writing Poetry To Save Your Life: How To Find The Courage To Tell Your Stories
(MiroLand, Guernica) and the bi-lingual poetry collection, In a Place of Flowers & Light (poems in English & Italian). Her book, What We Pass On collects her poems from 1980-2009.
